Medical providers will also assess medical issues as necessary and address them as deemed appropriate. Individuals involved in MAT services are screened for substance use on a regular basis as part of their course of treatment with the test results helping to inform the plan of care.
Often referred to as “MAT,” this is a treatment method that combines behavioral therapy and medications to treat substance use disorders. FDA-approved medications are utilized in the treatment of opioid and alcohol use disorders. All individuals are assessed to determine the appropriate plan of care including medication type and dosage. During the first year of treatment, individuals are seen weekly for group therapy and medication management and biweekly for individual therapy. All individuals are assessed for comorbid medical and mental health conditions and are appropriately referred for long-term follow up care with a primary care provider.
